Mauricio Rebollar-López ‘26 a recipient of the Edwin C. and Paula O. Kalke Award for Excellence in the Studio arts, is a 1st generation Mexican-American mixed media artist from Waukesha, Wisconsin, who graduated with a Bachelors in Studio Art and a minor in Spanish.
As a young latin youth living in a predominantly white suburb of Wisconsin, Rebollar-López has lived a different America than most others. The first real threat to his identity and very existence in the country he calls home, was the first election of President Donald J. Trump back in 2016. Ever since then, and the re-election of Donald J. Trump in 2024, Mauricio has been a recurring, and conscious witness to a country that willingly treats certain bodies as disposable collateral in the pursuit of power.
Through drawing, installation, photography, performance, and materially charged acts such as literally shooting his own artworks, Mauricio confronts the ongoing social and political issues of contemporary America.
